  • jpricewilliams My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years. We are on our 2nd round of Clomid. Ovulation tests were positive last night and this morning. Now I am experiencing waving pains on my left side (feels like my ovary), does that meant I have started ovulating or conceived or what does it mean? Also my chart says I am in my fertile window until the 9th of this month, I thought you only ovulate for 12 to 24hrs? Anyone ideas or explanations for this??

    • mom2beThe OPKs test for a LH surge. Some women surge for several days before ovulation, some on a time-scale of hours. The older you are, the more likely you are to have shorter LH surges. The LH surge happens before ovulation and ovulation can occur 12-24 hrs after the surge. Once you have ovulated, the egg will survive for about a day or two. The window is there because if you are trying to avoid, then you should not have sex until after that If you are trying to conceive you have a chance to during that

  • venigma I'm confused, are the only two groups here about TTC and pregnancy? I'm tracking primarily to satisfy my thirst for knowledge, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I just recently went off of hormonal contraceptives, simply because I no longer wanted to be taking hormones. I am not currently dating anyone, and do not intend to be sexually active until I am, so conception is not really a concern right now (though when I am in a relationship, I will be using fertility awareness to avoid pregnancy- at least for a while). Is anyone else not TTC? Are there other message boards for us? Can we create one? Amanda

    • angpuppyI'm using NFP (at least according to TCOYF the difference is that my husband and I completely abstain during fertile periods rather than using barrier methods). I came here because I use the Creighton Fertility Care system and wanted a place to chart other than my paper charts. Unforunately the simbols are based on the Billings method which I don't know. I know the stamps, but its still different. I also wanted to chart my temps because I'm breastfeeding and have been having light bleeding that I'm not sure is the return of my period or not. Only way I feel I can know is if I can confirm ovulation through my temp. Granted with baby its not easy to get regular sleep.

    • angpuppyBreastfeeding does supress ovulation and can be used as a method of birth control for the first 6 months if you're insane about it (no pacifier, no pumping, no formula, cosleeping, skin to skin contact...I don't know what woman can actually follow all the rules of ecological breastfeeding. You certainly can't have a job). When you breastfeed less frequently, the birth control effects slim down because you're getting less hormones that supress ovulation and you're getting them inconstantly. For some this means the return of fertility but with irregular cycles until your baby is completely weaned. For others, it means you're period does not return until your baby is completely weaned. Its not that you can't get pregnant, but rather that in the end you'll be waiting to ovulate and you don't know really when that is going to happen.

  • debbie2469 oops lol I meant how accurate is your site

    • melelisonHi Debbie, I don't work for this site, however I have been using it for the past 18months. I think it is very accurate, but it is only accurate if you are entering your temps regularly, your cm, and your opk test results help. Basically, the more info you can provide the better. I looked at your chart, and there is hardly any info at all, so I'm not sure what you expect, the software needs something to work with.

    • melelisonAlso, the reason the site assumed you would O on the 6th is because it was about 14 days from the start of your period, which is a generic O time in a normal cycle. Which is why if you temp, it would help you determine if you O on time. You could O later in your cycle, which isn't necessarily a good thing, temping can help find issues with your cycle and fertility.

    • steffaDoesn't your temp drop just before AF arrives?
      4:44 PM July 24
    • melelisonFor your temp to drop like that it means AF is coming. I looked at your chart and saw that you did start, but also that you don't keep track of your temp. If you plan on starting to do so then you need to use an actual BBT thermometer not a regular fever thermometer. These are more accurate and more sensitive, they record the the second decimal as well. They are also only about $9-$10.
